Join two pelvic floor physical therapists for an empowering and grounding 2-hour workshop that combines the most effective core exercises with somatic movement guided exploration. Learn how to protect your spine, move your hips, and center your core with a somatic approach. This experience will help you reimagine the "core" not just as a set of muscles to squeeze or stretch, but as part of an integrated movement system for dynamic support and ease. With the somatic movement approach, this workshop will guide you to confidently engrain your own path to centered core support and breath. Through a mix of anatomy, biomechanics, movement teachings, and embodied practice, you'll learn how to engage with your deep core to release low back stiffness, tight hips, and pelvic floor symptoms. Expect a mix of guided movements, gentle and consensual hands-on cueing, and somatic imagery designed to enhance mental clarity, body mind connection, and core power from the inside out.

Somatic movement therapy

Wear comfortable clothes and layers, bring water, and be ready to play.

Who is this class for?

Do you have back pain from time to time? Are your hips stiff? Do you struggle with sustaining “good posture?” Do you get neck pain if you exercise a lot? Do you have a tight or tense pelvic floor?

This class is a gentle approach to visualizing and experiencing your anatomy through guided movement meant to support groundedness and ease. You can move as little or as much as you like.

The class will begin with an orientation to the group and an opportunity to start by breathing together. You will have access to mats, bolsters, blankets, to get comfortable and rest. Wear comfortable layers you can move in.

You will listen to Dr. Maryssa guide a 15 minute anatomical story to allow your attention to move inward.

Dr. Karah will introduce anatomical and biomechanical concepts.

Both your inward attention, and the education about anatomy, will lead to a guided series of core exercises for most of the class. You will be prompted to roll, yield, reach, activate your core, and ground with your hips and shoulders. Sounding and humming is welcome to support your breath.
